SFFD Ambulance Deployment Facility
- Client: City and County of San Francisco
- Location: San Francisco, CA
A joint venture by MEI and YamaMar, the intent of the project is to provide a facility that supports enhanced readiness for SFFD’s EMT crews and accommodates warehouse, training, and administrative needs. The massing strategy is to unify the parking garage and the lower floors of the ADF structure into a single base or plinth. The administrative, preparation, and training functions of the ADF sit on upper floors separated from the base by a ribbon of glass.
The 'floating' box concept gives the building a visible identity distinct from the low-rise industrial fabric which characterizes the Bayshore neighborhood. Though the building is not open to the public, it serves the public; therefore the building should have a civic presence, moments of transparency, and be a point of pride for San Francisco.
