VA Palo Alto Polytrauma Aquatic Therapy Center

Project Details

  • Client: Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Location: Palo Alto, CA
  • Size: 18,000 SF
  • Construction Completed: 2012

Located at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Palo Alto campus, the Polytrauma Aquatic Center is part of a comprehensive rehabilitation center providing care to veterans and service members who have experienced severe injuries. MEI was selected by the VA to design a new aquatic therapy facility to replace the existing therapy pool building. The new facility provides a therapy pool, a lap/exercise pool, a gymnasium, a running track and support areas including showers, changing areas, and lockers for patients and staff. The two-story lobby serves as the main lobby for the natatorium on the south side and the future wellness center on the north.

As Architect of Record and interior designer, MEI collaborated with The Design Partnership on the design of the exterior of the building. This project was designed to meet the criteria for LEED Silver Certification.
